Search Tips

We recommend starting with a basic name search. When doing a basic name search, you can insert:

just your surname, or
surname and first name in any order, or
surname and initial in any order.

You should try all 3 methods!

The basic name search will do an exact word match. Any name which contains all of the words entered as search criteria will be displayed in the hit list. For example if the criteria entered is 'Robert Smith', any name which contains at least these two words will be displayed. This would include such names as 'Robert Smith and Associates', 'Robert James Smith', 'Robert and Mary Smith', and 'Smith Robert'.It will not return any R Smith, another search should be conducted using initials.

If your name has an apostrophe in it, eg O'Sullivan you should search for "O'Sullivan" and "Osullivan" to ensure all possible hits are returned.

Names such as "Van Der Drift or Mc Donald" that may be written with spaces between some syllables should be searched for in two ways. Firstly without the spaces, for example "Vanderdrift or McDonald". And secondly with spaces inserted, "Van Der Drift or Mc Donald". If you are conducting an 'advanced search' discussed below you must still search using these two methods to obtain the most accurate result.

The advanced name search works slightly differently. It is more of a "fuzzy" search and will display all names which are similar in sound and/or spelling to the name entered in the search criteria. For example, if you enter 'MacDonald', examples of some of the hits you may get are:- 'John McDonald', 'MacDonnald', 'Mary MacDonld and Associates'.

The advanced search also allows you to limit your search to just one type of money, ie Banking, Company or Life. If you are unsure, then leave this field blank.

Life policies

Records relating to life insurance policies vary slightly to that of banks and companies. For life policies, there can be an owner and a life insured name. When you undertake a name search, both of these names are searched. For example, if a search on 'Michael Peterson' is initiated, any life policy which has Michael Peterson as either the owner of the policy or the life insured will be displayed. However the sort sequence of the hit list will still be in alpha order of the name of the life insured regardless of which name was matched.
